5 best vegan spots in London

 Saez
Adam Saez

It’s World Vegan Day, and what better way to recognise the occasion than to give you the skinny on veganism in London.

I’ve been a vegan for just over a year now, and I’ve never felt better. As a longtime meat-eater, after a couple of years of research, personal excuses and witnessing what the meat, dairy and egg industry was doing to animals, our health and most importantly, our environment, going vegan was a no brainer for me.

World Vegan Day is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness about veganism. Common misconceptions are that vegan food is gross, has no flavour and just isn’t folks’ cup of tea. With London’s forward-thinking and trendy food scene, there’s no doubt that our city has some of the most delicious dishes, you wouldn’t even know they’re vegan. Here are my top 5 best vegan spots in London:

  1. Purezza

Who doesn’t like pizza? No one and liars, that’s who. Purezza’s got by far the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life…including non-vegan pizzas, I might add.

It’s a perfect choice for a casual date in Camden with another pizza lover. It’ll burn a small hole in your wallet but trust me, it’s worth it.

2. Temple of Seitan

I will never forget the first time I heard about Temple of Seitan in Hackney. I had a colleague convince me that this place served vegan fried chicken. Say no more, I’m sold.

Fried chicken is probably what I missed most when going vegan, but honestly, this place hit the spot. Temple of Seitan didn’t just hit my craving – I ate everything on the menu. Not one for the ultra health conscious, as this place is about a week’s worth of cheat days. Treat yourself!

3. Cookies and Scream

When you think of cakes and desserts, vegan is probably the last thing on your mind. Holloway’s Cookies and Scream uses no milk, flour or eggs and still manages to give me such a sugar rush. It’ll satisfy those with even a huge sweet tooth. It’s reasonably priced to boot, but I warn you, you’ll want to go back for more.

4. Amrutha Lounge – Earlsfield

What can I say about this place? It’s like going to your grandma’s place after so many years and she cooks up all your favourite dishes. At Amrutha, they just know what you want – the best vegan soul food in London.

5. Farmacy

Hippocrates once said: Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. And he hadn’t even dined at Notting Hill’s Farmacy. This is the right place if you’re looking to go all out. Organic, tasty, variety, atmosphere and most importantly, a huge range of alcohol. Need I say more?

If you’ve been thinking about going vegan for while now and still haven’t made the shift, I recommend trying it out for four weeks and the results will speak for themselves. That’s how I did it. Start with trying out these awesome vegan spots in London. Wishing you all a very happy World Vegan Day!
